This project was heavily inspired by
"A visual book recommender", made by Nathan Rooy. Please see his website for more details on the process.
I decided to adapt his concept to video games, using the Steam bestsellers
list to get the necessary reviews and Steams icons for the images.
Since Nathan gave no code and was sometimes vague in his technical explanation, I have had to reverse engineer a lot of things. (Not complaining, because I learned a lot doing this) Also, his reviews, which were from goodreads, are quite different from my steam reviews, since on goodreads you give stars and on steam only a thumbs up or down. So his definition of liking a book (giving it 5 stars), is not really analogous to my definition of liking a game (giving it a thumbs up).
I only used reviews from users with at least 5 reviews, as well as only games that got at least 100 reviews from these users. In the end this map has 6120 games in it.
I have tried to remove NSFW games using the store tags, though this unfortunately has also removed some other games, like The Witcher 2, which has Mature as its third tag.
Lastly, I still have a lot that I want to do. For example, I want to makes smaller webs for different store tags and use the chain rule of PMI to get recommendations based on a combination of video games.
